Each January Pantone announces the Pantone Color of the Year. The Pantone company created a matching system that has become the worldwide standard for selecting, communicating, and matching colors. In the past years colors have been Viva Magenta, Peach Fuzz and Classic Blue. I've always loved to challenge myself by adding the color of the year to my flower beds and containers.
These pops of flower or leaf color add vibrancy, calmness or even a moody vibe. This year the Pantone Color of the Year is Mocha Mousse revealing a warm, toasty shade to the garden.
Mocha Mousse is really testing my creativity as adding a light brown color is quite unusual. I've researched a few plants that fit the description.
Gracefull Grasses Toffee Twist (Carex flagellifera) is a sedge that will add texture to a planter. Planted alone I think it looks like a dead plant but among other warm colors it adds interest.
Dolce Toffee Tart Coral Bells (Heuchera hybrid) boasts creamy white flowers. It's leaves start out an amber color and then transition to ginger. This is definitely a plant to be appreciated en masse or in a container. The variations of shades is so different for a Coral Bells.
Lastly I found a dahlia that adds a dinner plate size blooms to your landscape. Cafe Au Lait flowerheads are a creamy beige beneficial to pollinators and floral arrangements.
What are your thoughts about taking on the Pantone Color of the Year Challenge in your garden? Are you up for the challenge?
