URI Cooperative Extension recently hosted a symposium featuring two keynote speakers and panelists who shared information about gardening more sustainably.
Participants learned how to build soil health without turning or tilling and
ways to increase soil fertility with cover crops. How to establish beneficial insects in the garden and companion planting techniques for pest control, disease and weed control were also discussed.
During breaks between speakers, guests were encouraged to peruse over 30 garden themed vendors. I was fortunate to assist Michelle Mullaly, of Hand Painted Botanical Glassware, and carefully package items bought by customers.
Most of Michelle's glassware is made of repurposed vessels, adding to the unique, one of a kind value. Her botanical paintings on glass exemplify a true appreciation and study of plants.
