Designing a Fairy House

Hi Gardening Friends!

I hope you are enjoying a beautiful summer and embracing each day! We've waited all winter and spring for the warmth of summer in New England and now that it's finally here, the days seem to be flying by.

A few years ago, a Copper Beech tree (Fagus sylvatica purpurea) on my property became infected with Beech Leaf Disease. Beech leaf disease is caused by the invasive foliar nematode Litylenchus crenatae mccannii, the disease damages leaf buds, causing dark, leathery stripes between leaf veins. It is nearly 100% fatal and is reaching many beech trees in New England. There is no cure at this time.

It needed to be cut down however I saw the beauty in the trunk and a future project so we left that in tact.
