What colors appeal to you? Do formal gardens bring you comfort or do you prefer a more natural garden? How do you see yourself in this space? An initial meeting with a client begins with a walk around the future garden space and a tablet. Lots of photos, from different angles and distances, are snappped and we talk about what their hopes are for this space.

Then it's time for a cozy cup of tea, or iced lemonade, and a chat. I've compiled a slideshow of color palettes, garden designs and architectural features. I mark the photos that appeal to the client as we contitue to talk about fragrance, allergies, high maintenance versus low maintenance gardens, 4 season interest and so on.

Time for my homework to begin! Using all the information compiled from our converstation I create a vision board, preferably within a few days. We want to keep the excitement and momentum going!

That is the first step in how I create garden design. I'm establishing a connection as educator and mentor. This will give the clients the confidence to maintain the garden long after my work is finished.
