I recently attended a workshop, hosted by my garden club, focusing on trough planting. Thoughts of alpine and fairy gardens come to mind but I really did not know any of the details of building a tiny garden. There are many specific requirements, such as appropriate planters and soil, but today I'm focusing on miniature hosta.
To be honest, my view of hosta has been jaded by frustration. Deer and slugs have consumed the hosta in my garden and look like tattered celery stalks by mid June. I had given up on this plant until I met "Mighty Mouse" and "Mouse Ears", tiny, baby hosta plants.
These petite versions offer a magical perspective to my garden. They are so small that planting them in containers really shows off their size.
